SIX professors in this group have research interests in fields ranging from biofluids to hypersonic phenomena and from computational fluid dynamics to multi-disciplinary optimization. This group is involved in most of the aerospace projects in Korea. They provide their expertise in government-sponsored development projects.

Laboratory : Hypersonics and Biofluid Laboratory
                      (±ØÀ½¼ÓÀ¯µ¿ ¹× »ýüÀ¯µ¿ ¿¬±¸½Ç)

Professor : Chang, Keun-Shik , Park, Chul

We conduct experimental research using high pressure shock tubes to investigate the aerodynamic heating phenomena in hypersonic flight environment. We also make design of large industrial shock tube for material testing in explosion simulation. Also we make breath gas measurement to estimate the pulmonary functions and the minimally invasive arterial blood pressure data.

Laboratory : Aerodynamics Lab
                      (°ø±â¿ªÇÐ ½ÇÇè½Ç)

Professor : Park, Seung-O

The Aerodynamics Lab focuses on several important issues in aerodynamics: Turbulent flow simulation and modeling, Boundary layer stability and transition, and Flow control using micro-devices. Current research projects include Stability analysis by using PSE, Flow simulation with Hybrid or Self-adapting turbulence models, Compressible turbulence modeling, and Numerical/experimental study on flow control using micro devices.

Laboratory : Aeroacoustics Lab.
                      (°ø·ÂÀ½ÇâÇÐ ½ÇÇè½Ç)

Professor : Lee, Duck-Joo

Conducts research on the generation and reduction of sound due to temporal disturbances in the air (e.g. rocket jets, turbo-engines, rotors). Aeroacoustics causes environmental, military, electrical, and structural problems. We use a high-order CAA method and coupled CFD/Free-Wake methods to understand the physics and applications of low-noise aero-engine design and flow control. Simulation results are validated by using an anechoic wind tunnel test.

Laboratory : Aerodynamic Simulation and Design Integration
                      (°ø·Â½Ã¹Ä·¹ÀÌ¼Ç ¹× ½Ã½ºÅÛ ÅëÇÕ¼³°è ¿¬±¸½Ç)

Professor : Kwon, Jang-Hyuk

Research subjects of ASDI Lab include three-dimensional grid generation, developing computation algorithms for all Mach number flows and shape design optimization using CFD technique, which is required in the preliminary design phase. The design optimization includes various optimization technique and MDO(Multidisciplinary Design Optimization) considering structure, noise, etc. together with aerodynamics is one of the main research topics.

Laboratory : Computational Aerodynamics and Design Optimization Lab
                      (Àü»ê°ø±â¿ªÇÐ ¹× ÃÖÀû¼³°è¿¬±¸½Ç)

Professor: Kwon, Oh-Joon

The Lab performs research in the areas of numerical simulation and design optimization based on unstructured meshes. The emphasis is given to algorithm development, and numerical simulations of variety of applied aerodynamic and fluid flow problems, including unsteady flows in relative motion, helicopter aerodynamics, turbo-machinery, UAV, hydrodynamic vehicles, wind turbines, and rarefied gas flows.
