The research led by Professor Sung Min Jo of the KAIST Applied Aero-Thermodynamics Group (AAG) has been selected for funding by the US AFOSR. The title of the project is “Investigation of thermochemical nonequilibrium in an arcjet nozzle”, and it will receive research funding over the next three years. The aim of this research is to develop technologies for modeling thermochemical nonequilibrium and quantifying uncertainty in arcjet nozzles, which are frequently used in high-enthalpy ground testing.
By combining ab-initio-based thermochemical models with stochastic models, the project seeks to develop versatile thermochemical models applicable across various domains. Furthermore, it aims to understand the impact of model uncertainty on experimental measurement data. Through this effort, the project is expected to contribute to securing core foundational technologies and fostering the next generation of research and development personnel.
