KAIST Department of Aerospace Engineering's "Future Space Exploration Core Technology Research Center (Principal Investigator: Professor Bang Hyo-chung") has been selected for the Space-K Big Project of the Korea Aerospace Administration, and will receive approximately 6 billion won in research funding over the next five years. The Future Space Exploration Core Technology Research Center aims to develop three core convergence technologies in the field of space science exploration and conduct research on them, while systematically fostering advanced experts in related fields, with the goal of future deep space exploration including Mars exploration. Through this research, it is expected to greatly contribute to strengthening the national space science exploration capacity, accumulating a commercialization foundation for space technology, and establishing a technology commercialization foundation through industry-academia-research cooperation. Meanwhile, it is expected that the launch of this project will serve as an opportunity to fully promote the long-term vision of KAIST Department of Aerospace Engineering, the construction of a Mars campus in 2050.
