Tokyo Tech AOTULE Summer Program 2024
The Engineering School of Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech) wishes to invite students from the AOTULE(ASIA-OCEANIA TOP UNIVERSITY LEAGUE ON ENGINEERING) member universities to participate in the 2024 AOTULE Summer Student Exchange Program at Tokyo Tech.
Hereunder is a brief outline of the program. For details, please refer to the ‘AOTULE Program Outline’ and ‘Important Notices’.
Participants:
2 post graduate students who are recommended by the home institution
(The College of Engineering of KAIST will rank a 1st choice nominee, and the other as a 2nd
choice nominee. Tokyo Tech will mostly likely select KAIST’s first choice and consider selecting the
second nominee depending upon the funding situation)
Exchange Period:
June to August. Students must arrive at designated dormitory in Tokyo area on 1 June 2024 and leave on 31 August 2024. During the exchange period, students may not leave Japan unless there are emergencies such as health/family issues. Those who plan to attend any international conferences outside Japan during the above exchange period are not eligible to apply for this program.
Important Notice:
Considering the unpredictable spread of the COVID-19 next year, please note that the program may have to be shortened, postponed, or cancelled entirely.
Activities:
In addition to conducting a research project, participants are required to complete designated course work(s). Furthermore, there is a two-day workshop (The 15th Multidisciplinary International Student Workshop(MISW2024), where the participants present their work (either research project at Tokyo Tech or one at their home institution) as well as introducing their home institution to Tokyo Tech students.
Flight and Accommodation:
KAIST will purchase air tickets to/from Japan for the selected students and they are required to notify the flight details to Tokyo Tech. coordinator in advance.
Students must stay at a designated dormitory sponsored by Tokyo Tech.
*Accommodation is provided for the exchange students only. Tokyo Tech cannot provide/help find accommodation for his/her family or others accompanying the participants. Also, some students may be required to share a double room with another student.
Tuition Fee and Allowance:
Tuition fees for the program are waived.
Scholarship (Daily Allowance):
Daily allowance* is provided by Tokyo Tech or Japanese Government Fund(JASSO).
* The amount is yet to be determined. For your reference, the amount in the 2023 program was approximately JPY 2,000/day (per person).
Student Visa:
All participants including those from visa waiver countries are required to obtain a ‘Student Visa’ immediately after receiving an acceptance notification to this program.
Insurance:
It is mandatory for all exchange students to enroll in the Tokyo Tech On-campus Accident/Liability Insurance scheme and the students will be responsible for payment of its premium upon arrival. In addition, the students are required to join the National Health Insurance System in Japan. Purchasing a medical/Travel insurance for the duration of the program is also highly recommended in advance at home country.
How to apply:
Attach the application form, check list, academic transcript(at least for 2 years), English proficiency test score, copy of passport, explanatory statement on expected graduation, and copy of visa to stay in the home institution’s country(for int’l student) and submit them to your department administration team/office.
Your department team/office should issue an official electronic document (협조문 in Korean) that needs to be sent to us by the deadline, 08 December 2023. Please note that the deadline of your department is likely to be set before the deadline stated above.
The Tokyo Tech AOTULE Committee will review the applications and notify KAIST College of Engineering of the candidate selection by the end of January 2024. The selected students will then need to complete an online application form and to submit necessary documents for admission into Tokyo Tech. by the beginning
