Laboratory Introduction
The Rocket Lab, run by Kwon Se-jin, a professor of aerospace engineering at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), is a laboratory that studies green/low-toxicity propellant rocket propulsion. Rocket elements (such as injector, chamber, and nozzle) and system configurations of propulsion that adopt green propellants are being studied. Research and development are actively ongoing for a catalyst of hydrogen peroxide decomposition. Moreover, the current interests are the essential technologies suitable for future green propulsion engines (such as hydrogen peroxide mono/bi-propellant-based system applicable to high-altitude space propulsion or auxiliary thruster). Furthermore, ultra-small thrust (MEMS) and ADN-based high-performance monopropellant for attitude control and orbital maintenance of nano/microsatellites (1-100 kg) are also being studied.
