Associate Professor
Hi, I’m Jihwan Choi. I received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Seoul National University, and the S.M. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering and computer science from MIT. I was a Principal Systems Engineer at Marvell Semiconductor Inc., USA and a faculty member at Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST). I’m currently an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems and a technical advisor for Samsung Research. My main research areas are on 5G/6G satellite communications and aerospace data processing.
About my research: As the New Space Era has begun and the 5G cellular network standards have included Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN), ICT-based aerospace technologies are expected to play a crucial role in the near future. With an ultimate goal of enhancing efficiency and values of satellite/wireless networks, my research topics include system architecture design and the analysis of algorithms/protocols. My lab is actively working on the optimal design of next-generation satellite-terrestrial integrated networks and aerial image data processing based on deep-learning technologies. I’ll expand my research interests to deep space communications and space AI for a new age of space exploration!
